Our Coach

Lee Howard’s aquatic career has included coaching all levels of competitive swimming, including age-group swim teams, prep ranks, university level, masters swimmers and world-class athletes.  His varied experiences led him to presenting international coaching clinics, including Mexico, Polynesia and Holland.

Coach Howard’s tenure as the head coach of the Southern Oregon University swim program from 1966-1982 is a how-to manual for coaching successfully.  His dual meet record stands at 112-62 and his Water Polo teams won 11 consecutive Pacific Northwest Championships.  Howard coached 15 individual national champions with 7 national relay team champions.  He was twice named District II Coach of the Year and in 1970 was selected National Coach of the Year.  Howard also served as Athletic Director for the Raiders from 1972-1975.

His accomplishments include coaching the World Games in 1977 in Sophia, Bulgaria and being a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee in 1972 and 1976.
